Frequently asked questions

If your question isn't answered below, WhatsApp is the quickest way to ask.

Getting started

Yes. Lessons are available for school children (typically from age 8 for guitar and piano, and 9 for singing), teenagers, and adults. Many students start as adult beginners.

Typically 8 for guitar and piano, and 9 for singing. It depends on the individual child: the teacher will check that they can focus for a structured lesson and, for guitar, comfortably hold the instrument. If you're unsure, send a WhatsApp and we'll talk it through.

That's the most common starting point. Lessons assume nothing. Beginners are welcome.

WhatsApp is fastest. Send a message with the student's age, instrument, and whether you want in-person or online — we'll take it from there.

Lessons & format

30, 45, or 60 minutes, weekly. We'll suggest a length based on age and goals.

Both work. In-person suits students who benefit from being in a dedicated lesson space. Online suits anyone outside Hermanus, or families where commuting is the thing that breaks consistency. Most adults are surprised by how well online works.

Guitar (acoustic or electric), piano, keyboard, and singing.

Yes — singing is taught by Jasmine Green, who has her own approach centred on healthy vocal technique. There's a dedicated Singing page explaining how her lessons run.

Practice & progress

Yes. Regular access to a guitar or piano/keyboard at home is essential — it's where progress actually happens. We can recommend beginner-friendly options.

For school children, 15–20 minutes most days. For adults, whatever fits — even 10 minutes daily beats one long session a week. Consistency matters more than length.

Optional. We support exam preparation when it fits the student's goals. Many students never sit exams and progress just as well; others find the structure motivating.

For a complete beginner: usually a recognisable simplified song within the first month, and a full song within 2–3 months. Speed depends on practice consistency more than talent.

Practical

Yes, in some cases — worth asking on WhatsApp.
